SHARECROPPERS' COTTON SEED STORAGE BARN

Stein Rd. toward Lake Jackson
Chatham MS

Built by the Stein family in the 1920s, this two-story hexagonal structure consisting of sixteen pie-shaped rooms is a rare example of "round barns" of the late 19th to early 20th century. Local planters stored their seeds here after their hand-picked cotton was ginned at the adjacent Stein gin.
