This is the 2nd home built in the subdivision. Mr. and Mrs. Fred & Norma O’Bannon built the home in 1928. The home is known as “Shadowlawn”. Betty Jane O’Bannon Holiman would be their only child. Originally farming close to Bourbon, MS, he left farming and was employed by England Motor Co, at 216 Main Street, now the location of the Greenville Police Department. During World War II he served with the 114th Field artillery, part of the Dixie Division. He had the rank of Major and retired as vice-president of England Motor Co.
Mrs. O’Bannon was an accomplished woman of the time. She held a Doctorate from Northwestern and was Superintendent of Washington County Schools. O’Bannon School at the corner of Reed and Raceway Road is named in her honor. Betty Jane married E.J. Holiman and together they build the house at 1129 West Gamwyn in 1940.
